Rescue Operations Following the Crash of Delta Flight 191

crash. Windshear associated with a Dallas thunderstorm resulted in a "double crash" of the
Lockheed L-1011 that left only 27 survivors of the more than 150 on board. Survivors were
largely left to their own devices in extricating themselves from the tail section of the plane,
and the first ambulances left the scene nearly an hour after the crash occurred. The paper
compares US Coast Guard rescue protocol with that of the FAA, assigning blame for
ineffectiveness to the FAA, DFW management, Delta management and the rescue workers
