Lookism: Male Perspective
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Society is filled with various 'isms' that serve to define and ultimately separate the groups for which these words were created. While some of these expressions are beneficial to people as a whole – patriotism, heroism – the vast majority – racism, sexism, genderism, ageism – are used in a negative connotation as a means by which to sequester certain portions of society. In keeping with this alienating attitude, lookism has become yet another standard on this long list of 'isms," with the male perspective one of the most important aspects of its existence. Lucy Grealy's "Autobiography Of A Face" - Deviance
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. Lucy Grealy was victimized twice in her life: the first time being broadsided by childhood cancer that - by distorting her face - caused her insurmountable grief and torment for the rest of her life and the second time by the social dictate that branded her a deviant who was not welcome to assimilate into her own culture. The extent to which Lucy faced adversity with regularity yet still labored to overcome it is both grand and far-reaching; that through her lifelong efforts to do so only pushed her deeper and deeper into the depths of social deviance speaks to the cyclical nature of society, its stringent mandates for acceptance and the substandard image - along with the disfigurement of her face - with which Lucy had to live. No additional sources cited.

Management and Leadership of Social Workers
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing differences in management considerations of professionals as opposed to hourly service workers, such as the employees of a fast food restaurant. The view of the employee as someone who needs to be watched constantly is an outdated one that precludes the need for leadership. This is particularly untrue for professionals involved in social work. There are issues of governance that must be addressed and rganizations need to have specific procedures in place of course. They also need to have the means to ensure accountability. Most social workers are committed to their jobs in terms of ideology and personal conviction, however. They are unlikely to require much if any supervision for the purposes of ensuring productivity. Adherence to procedure and creative solutions to administrative problems are of greater issue for social worker supervisors.
