Ophelia And Polonius; Katherine And Baptista: Father/Daughter Relationships
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. The father/daughter relationships between "Hamlet's" Ophelia and Polonius and "The Taming of the Shrew's" Katherine and Baptista reflect diversity of devotion, respect and admiration between two entirely different sets of parental association. That Ophelia is completely absorbed in the love she feels for her father Polonius is vastly contrary with the manner by which Katherine relates to Baptista, clearly illustrating how intimately Shakespeare approached the fundamental dynamics of father/daughter relationships in general. Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew' / Analysis of Katharina's Monologue in Act 5 Scene 2
[ send me this paper ]
In 5 pages the author discusses Katharina's monologue in Act 5 Scene 2 of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew". "'The Taming of the Shrew' by William Shakespeare was considered to be a comedy in his time. Its plot is the theme in which males and females are pitted against one another for dominance in marriage. The play appears to be about an assertive woman, Katharina, who is coping with how she is supposed to act in the late sixteenth century society. She is expected to obey the unwritten laws of her society in order to be accepted by it. The play ends with Katharina outwardly conforming to the norms of the society. Inwardly, however she could be retaining her assertiveness, although she assumes the role of the obedient wife". No additional sources cited.

Social Status of Women in "Much Ado About Nothing"
[ send me this paper ]
An 11 page paper discussing women's roles as portrayed in"real life" along with those of "Much Ado About Nothing" and other plays, particularly "The Taming of the Shrew." The fact that Benedick misinterprets statements is shown merely as being honest mistakes. When the same error is committed by Beatrice and even Kate, the the audience and the other characters alike cluck over the obvious error that in reality was not error at all, but was the result of a finely crafted defense mechanism designed to keep all others at bay.
