Three Different Interpretations of William Shakespeare’s “Othello”
[ send me this paper ]
A 2.5 page paper which examines whether Othello is a faultless hero whose strength and virtue are turned against him by the evil Iago; whether Othello is a weak, stupid man easily fooled by Iago’s intellectual superiority; or whether Othello is simply a victim of the culture in which the play is set, and more specifically, the racist and sexist stories it is built upon. Villainy in Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and "Othello"
[ send me this paper ]
A seven page paper looking at these two works by William Shakespeare in terms of the depth of evil in their villains, Claudius and Iago. The paper notes that the best and most effective villains are those who are not completely black, but who contain shades of gray; the most effective evil does not come from the villain alone, but from the personality clashes engendered by the conflict in which the villain and hero find themselves engaged. Bibliography lists three sources.

Why Did Othello Kill Desdemona?
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact that there were a number of reasons that Shakespeare’s Othello killed his wife. Jealousy, idealism, revenge, control and stupidity all serve as just part of the reason Othello acted so blindly. The reasons that have been suggested as the basis for Othello’s murder of Desdemona all exist but are only singular characteristics of the larger circumstances that drove him over the proverbial “edge.” In fact, Desdemona’s respectful and submissive demeanor towards Othello actually contributes to her death. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

William Shakespeare's "Othello": Reality In Comedy
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. In the comedies, appearances and reality are manipulated for comic effect; in "Othello," the audience is presented with the tragic implications of being in a world where appearances are at odds with reality. One can readily surmise that this aspect is particularly apparent, inasmuch as Iago is a villain who only appears to be 'honest,' while Othello is a trusting sort who believes that men are intrinsically honest even if they seem not to be so. The writer discusses how this reciprocation of actual characteristics lends to the audience's enjoyment as social and political hypocrisy is presented in a most outwardly entertaining manner. No additional sources cited.

William Shakespeare’s Protagonist Othello as a Tragic Hero
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper which examines how Othello represents the concept of the tragic hero, by considering four specific criteria – superiority (in terms of courage, strength and loyalty), taking responsibility (leading the fight against the Turks and marrying for love), struggles (with society, with others, within himself), and jealousy as Othello’s tragic flaw. No additional sources are used.
Filename: TGothero.rtf

Women in Othello
[ send me this paper ]
