Youth Suicide: Theory, Intervention and Policy
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the theory, intervention and policies about youth suicide. Because of the increase in youth suicide in the United States in the last thirty years, researchers have provided cognitive theories in an attempt to describe the continuum which occurs in adolescents from negative emotions to depression to suicide ideation to eventually suicide. Once understood, parents, educators and counselling professionals try and implement intervention programs which are available to adolescents in school programs, outside counselling and hotlines to provide for all possible avenues of screening and intervention. Primary and secondary programs should be included in any policies implemented for the prevention of youth suicide starting with programming for youths at risk in the primary school level and continuing throughout the teen years allowing for proper education of counsellors and teachers in regards to the research available.

Youth Violence In The United States
[ send me this paper ]
20 pages in length. Hands-on parenting has gone the way of the horse and buggy; no longer are kids raised in stable, functional families with an original mother and father but are shuffled into preschool, watched by nannies or babysitters and taught everything they (supposedly) need to know about life from mind-numbing influence of television and video games. Portrayals of solid, interactive family life in such programs as The Brady Bunch and Father Knows Best draw chuckles from contemporary generations for their silly, far-fetched impression of what family life has come to represent, only these portrayals are just as accurate for their era as shows like Roseanne and Married With Children are now where kids are disrespectful, rude, self-centered and lacking any social responsibility, which represents just the tip of the iceberg in a society where proper parenting has become a thing of the past. Detachment of this extent can reach epic proportions when mentally/emotionally unstable American kids grow into adolescents who have crossed over into violent behavior. Bibliography lists 17 sources.
