The Family Role in Juvenile Delinquency.
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) It used to be popular to" blame" Mom for everything that went wrong in the lives of her children. We have moved a little past that, and now look at the role of "the family" in juvenile delinquency. While it is necessary to keep in mind, that "mom" may still be the "only" family, we have also added to that parental role in the form of extended family members, the neighborhood and role models as ways to help keep our children away from delinquency. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

The Guilty Patent "Band-aid"
[ send me this paper ]
(9pp) One of the difficult judgments to make in the area of law and crime prevention, is to determine when blame stops and responsibility begins. One idea that is growing in popular consideration is creating legislation, which makes parents responsible for their minor children's crimes. The major method of this logic is "hitting the parents in the pocketbook." Although this sounds like a clean and easy solution, it really is a bandaid approach to a much larger problem. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

The Link Between Learning Disability and Delinquency

An 11 page paper discussing whether a link between learning disability and delinquency truly does exist. There is substantial argument against any link existing between LD and delinquency, but there is far greater evidence in favor of its existence. Includes an outline; bibliography lists 9 sources.

The Many Manifestations of Aggression in Children
[ send me this paper ]
A 13 page overview of the different manifestations of aggression which occur among our nation’s young people. Notes the importance of both environment factors and genetic factors in determining the form aggression will take. Suggests that by far boys are more likely to exhibit the more serious forms of aggression than are girls and that the intensity of this exhibition increases rather than decreases with age. Devotes particular attention to the problems of verbal aggression, sexual harassment, and acts of over violence. Defines each and examines the different manifestations of each which have occurred during the last few years. These forms of aggression, in particular, are suspected to be the result of deeply rooted psychological problems. This paper suggests that the increase in aggression which we have experienced over the last few years is directly correlated with a decline in societal mores and norms but emphasizes that it is also important to remember that various physiological and genetic factors can be at play as well. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

The Myth of Peer Pressure
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page paper discussing peer pressure, the great scapegoat for many of the poor choices that teens can make today. There are more areas in which teens can make choices than at any other time, and those teens without the unyielding support of a close family frequently are on their own in making decisions for themselves. Peer groups can have influence, but only by the acquiescence of the individual. "Peer pressure" has become a euphemism for discounting personal responsibility, but it has no effect in minimizing that personal responsibility. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
