Children may dream as early as infancy but it is not until the age of 3 or 4 that most children report having dreams. Even at this stage, the children believe the dreams are external to their existence. From the ages 5 to 12 however about 20 to 39 percent of children report having nightmares. While night terrors are just single startling images for a child and are usually forgotten, nightmares are considered bad dreams.
