The Negative Impact of Adult Entertainment Businesses on Communities
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the impact of adult entertainment businesses on communities. Several cities and regions across the United States have used the argument that adult entertainment within a community has a negative impact on that community and its residents and have used this argument to implement ordinances which take into account the negative impact. Communities in which adult entertainment businesses have been established have reported increased crime, increased public health violations, and a decrease in the property value of their homes or businesses among other negative factors. In addition, research studies have found that from a psychological and sociological standpoint individuals also experience an increased fear of crime, vulnerability and a decrease in life satisfaction and sense of control over their lives and community. From a political standpoint, officials must weigh this negative impact with the right of adult entertainment establishments to operate a business in accordance with their overall rights of freedom within the U.S. Constitution.

The Political Structures of Texas and Illinois
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages. There
are some distinct differences in the political structures of the

Part of this is due to the demographics and population; for

groups in different ratios. This accounts for some of the
differences. This paper will examine the legislative, judicial
and executive branches of the state governments of both Texas and
Illinois in order to best make a complete comparison between the

[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Launched on March 1 of 2003, the Homeland Security Department has had a diversified impact upon local levels depending what adjustments have been imposed upon which sectors, with some like David Walker, comptroller of the General Accounting Office contending how it is "going to take years in order to get this department fully integrated" (Anonymous, 2002, p. 3). One thing is for sure, however: How profoundly the ripple effect will long be felt throughout all local levels of America. The Pros and Cons of Tax Increases
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 3 page paper discussing the pros and cons of tax increases. Increases in income, payroll and property taxes usually meet with opposition when proposed by government officials. However, in many instances an increase in taxes can in the short and long term benefit those who pay them and those who rely on government funding to live. While in many cases, an increase in tax may be used to pay of local, state or federal deficits, in the case of taxes for benefit systems such as Social Security an increase in payroll tax may be the only option available in order to maintain the program, currently expected to begin an annual deficit in 2018. Other tax increases can be seen to benefit residents in a particular community immediately as in the case of Seattle area residents who have been asked to approve a tax increase to maintain the current park system.
