Ethical Considerations in Embryonic Stem Cell Research
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page position paper arguing against embryonic stem cell research and in favor of using adult stem cells for the same purpose. Philosophers can argue the moral and ethical position of harvesting embryonic cells forever, “proving” either positive or negative positions at will without arriving at any solution. If patients are indeed suffering needlessly because of the lack of stem cell research, it is the research community that is responsible. Adult stem cells are readily available, behave in the same manner and carry no ethical or moral consequences at all. Rather than argue against government policy, researchers need to be turning their attention to other possibilities, thereby following the path of research development that has been in use for more than a century and thusfar has produced every advance that we now enjoy. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Ethical Dilemma Concerning Do Not Resuscitate Orders
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. A terminally ill patient scheduled to have palliative surgery is refused by her doctor unless she reverses the Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order she put in place to address her incurable disease. The reason why her physician required his patient to change her DNR to full code while in the operating room is unclear; perhaps he did not want to have the responsibility of her potential death looming over his head without a way in which to medically address the situation. Maybe he was not fully aware of the extent to which her terminal illness necessitated such a drastic order as the DNR. Regardless of his inability or downright refusal to accept the patient's wishes, he was committing a rather serious breach of ethics where his medical practitioner's behavior is concerned. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Ethical Issue of Euthanasia/Assisted Suicide in Nursing

Ethical Issues in Health Care
[ send me this paper ]
A 20 page research paper that examines 3 issues in health care: 1) the balance between the government's need to protect public health versus individual rights in regards to the resurgence of TB; 2) a case study, in which a dying man's wife requests termination of life-sustaining intervention and pain control; and 3) examination of court cases in which the state's need are weighed against individual rights. Bibliography lists 15 sources.

Ethical Issues in Managed Care Research
[ send me this paper ]
This 7 page paper provides an overview of the reasons behind the rise of the HMO and the dilemmas surrounding alternatives. The problem that the paper addresses is that most research is centered on those of white European heritage, a problem perpetuated by researchers’ use of large databases that in themselves exclude many from other population groups. Researchers pursue knowledge with admirable intentions, and they devote much effort to ensuring that they arrive at a research design free of bias of several types. Many fail to understand that they begin with bias, however, and that their entire effort is undertaken under the banner of researcher bias that translates to biased results. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Ethical Issues of Pharmaceutical Development
[ send me this paper ]
This 3 page paper discusses some of the ethical issues facing the pharmaceutical industry. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
Filename: HVEthPhm.rtf

Ethical Theories and Dr. Death
[ send me this paper ]
This 4 page paper argues that the ethical theory of altruism is the best way to explain the suicides presided over by Dr. Kevorkian. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
Filename: HVKvorkn.rtf

Ethical Values in Nursing
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing whether it is possible to teach ethics and ethical values in nursing. The answer is a resounding yes, of course. In support of that position, the paper discusses the philosophies of Kant, Mill and Rawls. While Kant and Mill (the categorical imperative and “the greater good”) provide a sound basis, the philosophy of Rawls is seen as being most directly applicable to teaching ethics in nursing. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Ethics in a Geriatrics Case
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page research paper that discusses the ethics in a hypothetical scenario that involves an elderly incompetent woman and conflicts of interest in her family's decision-making ability and in the situation of the surgeon who says that amputation of her feet for gangrene is required to save her life. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
Filename: khganeth.rtf

Ethics of Colorectal Cancer Screenings
[ send me this paper ]
This 8 page paper considers the idea that as a society, Americans have chosen to "sacrifice" the lives of people under age 50 to colon cancer, rather than imposing a cost of screening at a younger age. It also considers mandatory annual screening for the entire population as a viable way to end this cancer. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Ethics of Decisions Regarding Patients in the Persistent Vegetative State
[ send me this paper ]
This 7 page paper discusses the controversy regarding end of life care. The Terri Shiavo case is mentioned. Utilitarianism is defined and that model is used to examine the issue along with the concept of the sanctity of life. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
Filename: SA623PVS.rtf

Ethics of Embryonic Stem Cell Research
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper discussing what embryonic stem cell research is; the US government’s current ban on creating new lines; ethical questions and the philosophies of Kant and Mill. The paper concludes that adult stem cell research should receive additional attention. Adult stem cells appear to respond in the same ways as embryonic stem cells, and there is no ethical consequence as in research with embryos. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Ethics of Human Cloning
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page paper discussing the ethics of human cloning. The paper treats therapeutic and reproductive cloning separately, and illustrates the applicability of the philosophies of Kant, Mill and Rawls. There is little ethical support for reproductive cloning, but therapeutic cloning is less clear. One author states that we should not avoid a technology simply because we do not yet have it completely identified. Those awaiting transplant organ availability likely would agree. It is left to the rest of us to decide what is or is not acceptable in our society. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Ethics of Human Cloning
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page paper discussing the ethics of human cloning. Stem cells used in therapeutic cloning are most plentiful in placenta and aborted fetuses, but they also are available in every adult. Therapeutic cloning does not seem to be as much an issue as is the origin of the stem cells from which cloning can be accomplished. All ethical issues should be served through adult donation of stem cells, in the same way adults now donate blood and organs. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
Filename: KSethClone2.rtf

Ethics Of Managed Care
[ send me this paper ]
This 4 page paper discusses managed health care and the ethics of them. The essay identifies the limits placed on patients and physicians. The basic argument is that managed health care companies are neither ethical nor moral. Bibliography lists 1 sources.
Filename: PGethhmo.RTF
