Heroism and the Human Experience
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 12 page paper discussing heroism, humanity including the examples given in the lives of Hiltgunt Zassenhaus, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Jimmy Carter. Heroism has many different classical and modern definitions but the most acceptable and all inclusive are those definitions which include the fusion of mind and body. The mind of a hero can recognize basic human values which are being ignored and feels the need to defend them against adversity. The body of a hero is the action element which separates heroes from the rest of society. Heroes create positive actions in defence of basic human values despite the inaction of those around them. Modern day examples of real heroes can be seen in the lives of: Hiltgunt Zassenhaus who at the age of seventeen refused to raise her hand and speak “Heil Hitler” during the beginning of the Third Reich regime; Dietrich Bonhoeffer who also opposed the Nazi regime by protecting the Jews and conspiring to assassinate Hitler who eventually killed Bonhoeffer because of his involvement; and Jimmy Carter, who saw the injustices against African Americans in Georgia in 1962 despite legislation which ruled otherwise and decided to enter the political race to try and force humans to work together to attain a world of peace and justice. While theories of heroism are still being debated, Carl Jung believed that the psychological archetype of hero and warrior has always existed and always will exist in the collective unconscious of humans. The quality of the strength of individuals to overcome adversity and popular opinion continues in many aspects of culture and is used to inspire generations such as the inspirational messages found in Rainer Maria Rilke’s “Letters to a Young Poet” in which he asks that writers always follow their inner feelings. Overall, heroism is found in many forms but mostly it is found in people who not only intellectually are able to recognize injustices in the world but also are able to take action to defend human values and morals.

Hitler and the Lions (Comparing the Roman's
Persecution of the Christians with
Hitler's Persecution of the Jews)
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) Rome sporadically persecuted the Christians
for about three hundred years of their rule. We
could almost wonder if it gave leadership something
to do once they felt they had conquered as much
territory as possible, as the intensity of that
persecution seemed to depend on the whims of the
leader of the moment. There are few who would say
that Hitler was whimsical in his treatment of the
Jews. There is no doubt that both involved major
persecutions: this discussion will compare and
contrast some of the elements involved in both
periods of history.

Hitler Unopposed?
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) Numerous factors seem to have existed that
make it appear that Hitler moved almost unopposed

involved with what they were doing, to worry, to
see, or even pay attention to the events of Europe.
In this discussion we will look at some of those
events and analyze how they all influenced the
final outcome of Hilter's rise to power.
