Policy and Politics in Early Childhood Education in the UK
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper illustrating why workers in early childhood education in the UK need to be informed of political and policy matters. The UK’s approach to early childhood education was as fragmented and variable as that in the US until the Labour government implemented changes beginning in 1997. Today, all 4-year-olds have access to free daycare that includes academic instruction in preparation for compulsory school attendance beginning at age 5. There are concerns that very young children receive instruction for which they are not yet ready, a fact that workers need to remain aware of and avoid. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Policy and Politics in Early Childhood Education in the UK
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper illustrating why workers in early childhood education in the UK need to be informed of political and policy matters related to child abuse and neglect. The UK has no national law requiring professionals to report any suspected child abuse. It has implemented seemingly every other approach to reducing the incidence of child abuse, and the changes expected following the death of Ainlee Walker may well include such a requirement. Workers in education will need to remain aware, and use their positions to help identify those children at risk for child abuse. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Policymaking Process: No Child Left Behind Act
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Establishing political policy is a process both lengthy and involved, more often than not fraught with painful compromise. From the very first inkling of interest to the final and official signature, the comprehensive process requires myriad explicit steps to ultimately enact policy, not the least of which entails dealing with individual personalities and agendas. One can readily note the vast complexities of the policy process, not the least of which speaks to the importance of the implementation portion, an element of the overall process that is "inextricably related to, and interdependent with, the other parts" (Nakamura et al, 1980, p. 21). When assessing this concern as it relates to, for example, President Bush's No Child Left Behind Act, one must also recognize how various environments - whether official (the president) or unofficial (the press, public opinion, etc.) policy makers - "constitute the essence of the policy system" (Nakamura et al, 1980, p. 21). Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Political, Economic, Historical and Cultural Issues as Influences on the Trends, Policies and Reforms in the Educational System
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing factors influencing the trends in the educational system.
Political, economic and historical factors have had a great deal of influence on the trends and reforms which have occurred in the educational system over the course of time. Although education was a guaranteed right from each state in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, state legislation carefully implemented restrictions to certain populations within the general educational system. The 1950s and 1960s was a time which saw the greatest shift in the educational system due to a variety of factors. Firstly, the Civil Rights Movement led to the development of the rights of all citizens to an equal opportunity for education and the educational systems had to accommodate all citizens regardless of race and ability. Secondly, federal funding in regards to programs for the sciences increased dramatically upon the federal realization that the Soviet educational system was scientifically superior to that in the United States. Recently, the cultural shift which is taking place within the United States will also impact the educational system in regards to cultural policies, teacher education, linguistic programming, student population considerations and social programming among other factors influenced by the growing Hispanic population within the country.

Private Vs. Public Education: Compare And Contrast
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. There is a battle being waged by parents and educators alike that says a public school education sorely lacks when compared with that of private schooling. Whether the issue is safety, academic integrity or a number of other concerns, critics of the public school system contend that it has gone downhill -- and fast -- for the past several years. Citing overcrowding, teacher apathy, lackadaisical attitudes and poor instruction as the primary culprits, opponents to public schooling believe that children can no longer receive even an adequate education unless they are placed in private schools.
