Education And Culture: Oppression
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Education is the key to freedom. As succinct as this statement may be, it holds within its brevity the singular ability to emancipate oppression and improve dire economic situations. According to Paulo Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed, education – or rather the lack there of – has long stood in the way of cultural progress, inasmuch as the access to academic learning has forever been restricted to certain social classes. An example of the practices described in Freire's book is that of Peter Hoeg's Borderliners, which follows the lives of three social misfits who find themselves living amidst an entirely different class of orphans, causing them to
speculate as to the reason they were all assembled in such an obviously educationally imbalanced environment. No additional sources cited.
