Art During the French Revolution: Examples from the Work of Jacques-Louis David

Several of Jacques-Louis David’s paintings (including “The Tennis Court Oath”, “The Oath of Horatii”, and “Napoleon at the Pass at St. Bernard” are analyzed in terms of their depiction of historical circumstances. The conclusion is reached that David considered commoners heroes alongside famous generals like Napoleon.
